Sr AML Specialist - Finland
Strengthen AML/CFT at wamo through hands-on investigations, risk-based decisions and smarter controls - helping build a safer, more resilient digital finance business in Finland.
About the role
We are looking for a Senior AML Specialist to join our Compliance team in Finland and help strengthen wamo’s AML/CFT capabilities.
Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, you’ll play a hands-on role across the AML lifecycle - from digital customer onboarding and risk assessment through transaction monitoring, investigations, suspicious transaction reporting and sanctions screening.
This is not a purely policy-focused role. You’ll work directly with cases, systems and controls while also helping us continuously improve how our AML framework operates in practice. You’ll contribute to our AML/CFT risk assessment, monitoring controls, policies and regulatory readiness, working closely with the CCO and teams across the business.
We’re looking for someone who combines strong AML judgement with a practical, analytical mindset and is comfortable operating in a fast-moving digital financial environment.
What you'll do
Review and risk-assess customers onboarded through fully digital channels, including CRA, CDD, EDD, identity verification, PEP assessments and high-risk jurisdiction considerations
Investigate and resolve transaction monitoring alerts across payments and transfers, identifying unusual or potentially suspicious activity
Contribute to the review, calibration and improvement of transaction monitoring rules and controls, including reducing false positives without compromising detection effectiveness
Investigate suspicious activity and prepare and submit suspicious transaction reports to the Finnish Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in line with internal procedures
Support the CCO in maintaining and updating the company’s AML/CFT risk assessment
Maintain clear, accurate and defensible case files, including CDD evidence, investigation findings, risk rationale, monitoring decisions and escalation records
Oversee day-to-day sanctions and PEP screening activities and investigate or escalate potential matches
Work closely with relevant teams on cases where AML and fraud risks overlap, including mule accounts, account takeover and other suspicious payment activity
Support the CCO with FIN-FSA interactions, regulatory information requests, inspections and related remediation activities
Support internal and external audits relating to AML/CFT
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of AML/CFT policies, procedures and controls
Support the development and delivery of AML/CFT training and awareness across the business
Keep up to date with relevant Finnish and EU AML/CFT regulatory developments and support their implementation within the business
What we're looking for
5+ years of hands-on AML/CFT experience within banking, payments, e-money or another regulated financial-services environment
Strong practical experience with CDD and EDD, including higher-risk customers, PEPs and complex customer cases
Experience with digital or remote customer onboarding and the associated AML/CFT risks
Hands-on experience investigating transaction monitoring alerts and identifying unusual or suspicious activity
Experience working with transaction monitoring systems, including contributing to rule review, tuning or optimisation
Experience investigating suspicious activity and preparing SARs/STRs or equivalent regulatory reports
Practical experience with sanctions and PEP screening, including investigation and escalation of potential matches
Experience supporting or contributing to an AML/CFT risk assessment
Experience investigating cases where AML and fraud risks overlap
Strong understanding of the risk-based approach to AML/CFT and relevant Finnish and EU AML/CFT requirements
Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to make sound risk-based decisions
Ability to clearly document investigations, decisions and risk rationale
Fluent Finnish and English
Nice to have
Experience working within a fintech, payments or e-money institution
Experience working specifically with the Finnish AML/CFT regulatory framework
Previous exposure to FIN-FSA or another EU financial regulator, including inspections, audits, remediation or information requests
CAMS/ACAMS, ICA or equivalent AML qualification
